I have been a musician from a very young age. I knew in early childhood that I was destined to be a performer. I have always loved music, poetry, songs and story telling. Music and rhythm are universal and moving to every human being.
When one decides to pursue music as an art, they embark upon a journey of self discovery and learning. Each students' journey begins and ends in their own unique place. No two students share the exact same journey. For those of us that dedicate our lives to musical arts, this journey is a life long process.
As a private teacher, my goal is to set each student on a path to reaching their immediate and long term objectives. My job as a private teacher is to seek out the strengths in my students and use these strengths as tools on the musical journey.
My experience in vocal music encompasses classical, opera, folk, jazz and choral styles and performance practices. I am a firm believer that all singers need to develop healthy and solid vocal techniques in breathing, body awareness and efficient singing. Finding the students' true and natural voice is always my main objective.
As a teacher and student of the bel canto style of singing I have a very deep interest in connecting the body, mind and spirit to the singing voice. I am currently working on incorporating yoga and other relaxation techniques to my own singing and teaching.
I believe in introducing all of my students to many genres of music. This provides opportunities for personal and musical growth on all levels. In many instances students discover new worlds full of endless possibilities that enrich their musical experiences.
I provide two student recitals per year (Spring & Fall) and I also provide a Command Performance recital once a year. I share the Command Performance recital with selected students that show the most dedication to their lessons during the year. We also participate in many NATS and MTNA sponsored performances and auditions during the year. Many of my students are active performers in the Las Vegas Community. I encourage all of my students to participate in and observe other performing opportunities in and around Las Vegas.
I teach the Bastien Piano Method along with basic and intermediate music theory for piano students. I am also capable of teaching composition and I encourage this in many of my piano students.
Many of my current students are surprised to learn that I also have nearly 15 years of experience playing the alto, soprano and baritone saxophones. I have a year of experience in playing mallet percussion instruments in college as well, although I do not currently teach these instruments.
